Optical Communications Products to Acquire GigaComm

California-based fiber-optic equipment maker OCPI (Optical Communications Products Inc.) is to acquire Taiwanese GigaComm for US$20 million in cash. GigaComm is a leading supplier of PON (Passive Optical Network) FTTH (Fiber-to-the-Home) components and FTTH modules in Japan. Its clients include Mitsubishi Electric and other Japanese players. Through this acquisition, OCPI expects to expand its operations into Asia and boost its revenue by 25%. The transaction will be concluded by the end of the summer 2006. GigaComm, which will be a wholly-owned subsidiary of OCPI, will continue to be based in Taiwan.
